Why were you inspired to do this?
I had been internally searching for a way to contribute to my community and society that meshed with my personality and beliefs, and ended up with my charity business,"Cards for Good!". Photography is a small hobby of mine and I began making photo notecards. When searching through my photos and placing them in categories, the thought came to me that it would be cool to sell the cards and have a local charity, that matches the subject of the photo, benefit from the proceeds
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
First, I ed the photos to use on my notecards. I began grouping subjects together and choosing 4 different photos for each subject. I decided on 6 categories to start. Then decided how to package and sell the cards.
Deciding on which charities to donate my proceeds was the the next step. I researched local charities that I believe represent a good cause, and a cause that match my photos. On the back of each card is a designation for the charity it benefits.
To get the word out about my little charity business, I emailed my family and friends with an introduction to "Cards for Good!", what I hope will one day be a well known charity.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
At first I felt a near sense of relief that I figured out how to use an interest of mine for charity. It seems strange but I found myself agonizing over how I could volunteer in a way that captivated me in the long run. There is no doubt that there are many things I can do to make a positive influence on society and I hope "Cards for Good!" will lead me to further opportunites to help people and worthy causes. I'm anxious to grow "Cards for Good!" and I'm happy that I've received a good response from my husband down to total strangers who have supported my venture with card orders and kind wishes.
Additional notes and tips:
It seems like it would be easy to figure out how to volunteer your time for the benefit of others but it wasn't for me. And if it isn't for you either, I suggest starting with something that intersts you and contacting a local organization that incorporates your interest. And then, just take the plunge; sign up and volunteer! **Once again, this is for you, Bill.
