Why were you inspired to do this?
As an amputee since 1985, I suffered from bone spurs growing in an effort to repair the broken/ missing bones.
I was on crutches for a long period and unable to walk for almost 6 years.
When I did start to walk again, I was overwhelmed by the fact that there was no equipment available for amputees to exercise with.
What were 3 things you did to make this happen?
I employed a professor of exercise and sports science to conduct a literature review.
I sponsored a fourth year design graduate to take my project on for is graduation year/paper.
I conducted clinical trials at Palmerston North Hospital to prove my machines actually worked and helped people.
How did you feel once you had accomplished this?
It was a very emotional ride.
Everyone on my trial had the sadest stories to tell, none of them chose to lose their limbs.
It was fantastic to see some run and all improve.
