Climbing Kilimanjaro
Travel & Leisure: Australasia

Why were you inspired to do this?

I have always been drawn to mountains after growing up in Canada. I just love the feeling of spending time outdoors enjoying the fresh air and taking in all the majestic scenery. It also allows me to time to think and rejuvenate after spending most of the year indoors in an office environment.

What were 3 things you did to make this happen?

I did a fair bit of research on what guiding company to go with. As this was part of a Round-the-World trip, I needed to figure out logistics and equipment as I didn't want to be saddled with all the gear on the rest of my trip

I also chose my companions wisely as it is mental toughness that gets you to the summit of mountains so it is important to have people around that will motivate you.

Booked my ticket and then I was commited!

How did you feel once you had accomplished this?

Absolutely fantastic! It is such a great experience not only to be climbing a mountain and camping in the great outdoors but we reached the highest point in Africa and the views were amazing. It was also very cold but a great accomplishment.

Additional notes and tips:

I would highly recommend climbing Kili for any avid trekker/climber as it is not a technically demanding task but it is so rewarding once you get up there.

How long does the Trek take to do in total? What would you recommend someone do that may not be an experienced climber to get ready. http://mylifelist.org/members/PublicProfile.aspx?PID=946

Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment! It was an awesome experience for my husband and I as well. Seeing the glacier as the sun rose totally awakened me. And yes it was so very COLD (but I grew up in Winnipeg so I shouldn't complain)!
