Visiting Normandy, France
Travel & Leisure

Why were you inspired to do this?

My husband and I spent our 10th wedding anniversary in Paris and he was very interested in visiting Normandy, specifically Omaha Beach where his Grandfather had come ashore during D-Day in WWII.

What were 3 things you did to make this happen?

We tacked our Paris trip onto one of my work trips, so my airfare was paid for.

We planned a train trip from Paris to the Norman coast and did some research around where to stay, what tours to partake in, etc. We settled on Bayeux, France home of the famous Bayeux Tapestry. It was a couple miles from the beaches and made it through the bombing and occupation unscathed, one of the only towns on the Northern coast to do so.

We got off the beaten track a bit and enjoyed the local town market, and the rich history Bayeux had to offer beyond the war references

How did you feel once you had accomplished this?

Normandy was the highlight of our trip to France. Paris was nice but Bayeux was more our speed. My husband felt a wonderful connection to his Grandfather's past. We also had one of our best meals there!
