A Visit to the Taj Mahal
Travel & Leisure

Why were you inspired to do this?

I had always said that I had wanted to see the Taj Mahal. But this was entirely a dream. I knew I would never get to India any time soon to see this wonder, content just thinking it would be something that a lot of people dream of doing but never get to do. My first true love, now my husband, is from India. When we decided to make the trip back to his home I was amazed at the prospect of actually being able to see the Taj in real life...not just the beautiful pictures in a book or on the internet.

What were 3 things you did to make this happen?

Fate just so happened to let me fall in love with an Indian. LOL

We planned a trip back to his hometown in India.

Booked a train to take us to Agra (12 hours of travel time). We took the train to get the full Indian Railways experience LOL...next time I'll fly!

How did you feel once you had accomplished this?

I felt so awesome once I stood in the place that I assume thousands of photographers stood to take those pictures I had once looked at. It was near sunset when we finally went into the compound making the sky a beautiful back! Now I have my own pictures to enjoy!

Additional notes and tips:

Be prepared to pay a tad more than your Indian residents. Also you either have to take off your shoes to actually go into the Taj or you can ask for shoe covers. My advice is to go barefoot and enjoy the whole experience!

Wow your picture is so neat, you are actually there. Its surreal to be doing something you always dreamed of.
